Pemberdayaan dan Pembangunan : Strategi Masyarakat Madura dalam Meningkatkan Kualitas Sumber Daya Manusia Melalui Pendidikan (Studi di Desa Buluh, Kecamatan Socah, Kabupaten Bangkalan)

This study aims to examine the role of education in improving the quality of human resources among the Madurese community, focusing on Buluh Village, Socah District, Bangkalan Regency. Low-quality human resources are often associated with poverty, which hampers regional development. This research employs James S. Coleman’s rational choice theory as the analytical framework, assuming that educational choices are made to enhance family welfare and economic opportunities. The study uses a descriptive qualitative method with purposive sampling, non-participant observation, and unstructured interviews. The findings reveal that most residents of Buluh Village prefer formal education over non-formal education (Islamic boarding schools), as it is perceived to offer greater employment prospects and economic improvement. However, the lack of employment opportunities remains a major obstacle. Empowering human resources through formal education must be accompanied by the creation of local-based job opportunities to ensure tangible impacts. This study highlights the strategic importance of education in alleviating poverty in Madura.
